Police Use Chopper in Snake Search

The 4ft reptile — believed to be a boa constrictor — was spotted slithering along a busy pavement last week.

Three residents bravely tackled it and managed to trap it in a bin.

But the snake — nicknamed Hissing Sid by locals — forced its way out and was last seen disappearing up a drainpipe in Plymouth, Devon.

Bernard Brotherton, 53, said: “We got it in the bin about three times but even with six hands pushing on the lid it was too powerful. It was getting angry so we backed off.”

A police chopper tried to spot the snake from the air with its thermal imaging camera. Experts think it may have been let free by an owner who can’t afford to keep it.
