Teen With 16 Inch Mohawk Challenges Dress Code

A DeLand teenager likes his mohawk spiked out — to 16 inches.
His efforts to get the ‘do approved, however, hit a road block this school year: His principal.
When Asher Stonesifer wore his spiked hair to DeLand High School on Tuesday, his principal warned him that he was violating the school dress code.
The 17-year-old showed up to school the next day, spikey hair and all, and was sent home.
“I’m fighting for my right to spike my mohawk and have my spikes during school time,” said Stonesifer said.
The school district dress code has no mention of hair. However, schools can go over and above the dress code.
